The new moon in Scorpio this past Wednesday marks an exciting new phase for all of us – Scorpio energy propels us toward deep, total, and meaningful transformation. Scorpio is the still, murky waters - deep, passionate, cold, instinctual, primal, sexual, aggressive, resourceful - most of the tendencies that we tend to mask as we smile and politely excuse ourselves through public.
This week's new moon has beautiful support from expansive Jupiter, leading many astrologers to herald this new moon as the most fortunate of the entire year. People are talking about birthing a new you, manifesting your heart’s desires, and dreaming and creating your best self.
While I believe that with the infusion of Scorpionic power into our lives at this time we are absolutely able to make some definite progress, the idea that we can become anything we desire or dream of or that we can become just as we would like ourselves to be is missing the point.
Remember Scorpio is deep and murky water. What happens when you dive in? You don’t know! A jellyfish may sting you, you don’t know how deep the water is, you may get a skin rash, you might drown, you might discover a new species. You. Don't. Know. That's the point.
Scorpio is about trust and surrender. When you make the courageous decision to enter the depths with total conviction, whether it be to a relationship, job, lifestyle change, or something else, you do not know how you will transform and who you will be after. You don't imagine who you would like to be and then dive into the waters to be born into that imagined state. You enter the water, naked and vulnerable, and if you are lucky, you will come out as a purified version of yourself.
Scorpio isn’t about imagining yourself as this strong courageous warrior and then playfully skipping toward that end. Scorpio is about the instinctual current, the cellular intelligence that tells a cell to enter apoptosis. You do not choose this or select it. You commit and you dive and you surrender and then you become.
Scorpio will forge you into the person you are designed to be. A rose seed will not grow into a marigold. All of this tripe about dreaming up who you would like to be and then expecting that you will transform into that after passing through the Scorpionic waters is silly. The whole point of the Scorpio journey is to travel in the depths without knowing who you will be after. You submit to the transformation. That’s it. You go in and you hope you will survive to see the other side.
Instinct doesn’t work in pictures and dreams. Instinct works in tugs and stabs and exhales in your guts. Follow your earthy guts without a dreamy vision of who you would like to be. Submit to the process and be prepared for parts of you to arise that you couldn't have imagined in your wildest dreams.
